Parent and baby, ages birth to 12 months, attend class together. They meet once a week for 2½ hrs. Parents enhance their parenting role through participation in a parenting discussion and playgroup led by a trained parent educator. Each session covers a variety of topics relating to child development and behavior and other related topics. Appropriate activities for the babies promote physical, emotional and cognitive development through songs, movement, and early manipulatives.
Parents and toddlers, ages 12 to 36 months, meet once a week for 2 1/2 – 3 hours. These classes provide information on parenting philosophy, intellectual, physical and social/emotional development, and problem solving techniques and are designed to help parents understand the toddler stage of development. In the children’s program, the children participate in play-based developmentally appropriate learning activities such as songs, movement, stories, art and free-choice.
Parenting the Preschooler (not scheduled at current time)
Parents and children, ages 2 to 4 years old, attend class together for 3 hours. This class provides parents the opportunity to interact with their child through participation, observation and discussion. Parenting discussions cover the growth, development and needs of the preschooler. The children participate in play-based activities including early literacy, math readiness, music, movement and art activities. Children bring their lunch to enjoy in a social setting with their friends.
